Esta investigación pretende aportar datos para determinar en qué medida el feedback influye en el rendimiento académico.Se ha realizado una experimentación con estudiantes universitarios de los grados de marketing y de educación física. Se ha dividido la muestra en tres grupos en función del tipo de información -feedback- que se les proporcionaba.Los resultados muestran que hay correlación entre la información facilitada y los resultados obtenidos. El rendimiento mejora en función de la información cuando ésta es correcta. As it is known, there is no rule satisfying Additivity in the complete domain of bankruptcy problems. This paper proposes a notion of partial Additivity in this context, to be called µ-additivity. We find that µ-additivity, together with two quite compelling axioms, anonymity and continuity, identify the Minimal Overlap rule, introduced by Neill (1982).

La presente investigación gira en tono al ser a partir de la perspectiva de Eduardo Nicol. Se ha intentado tematizar la nota de la unidad ontológica precisamente desde la distinción entre el logos y lo ajeno. Esta distinción posee una doble importancia, pues, por un lado, puede hablarse del inicio de esta forma de ser caracterizada por el simbolismo y el sentido; mientras que, por otro, esa misma distinción nos abrirá el camino hacia la eminencia de la unidad del ser.

El modelo explicativo más contrastado para entender la situación escolar del alumnado de minorías étnicas es el elaborado por el antropólogo John Ogbu y constituye, además, un punto de referencia central en los estudios sobre este tema a nivel internacional. Por eso, no deja de producir sorpresa que cuando se realizan investigaciones o escritos o se organizan congresos relativos a la escolarización de alumnado de minorías étnicas en España a menudo se siga sin tener en cuenta a Ogbu y, por (...) el contrario, se repitan explicaciones manidas que Ogbu y sus seguidores ya hace tiempo se encargaron de rebatir con datos y argumentos muy sólidos. El presente documento tiene como único fin ser un material divulgativo sobre el modelo explicativo de John Ogbu. Este texto está realizado con fragmentos de artículos de Ogbu o bien de autores que han desarrollado este marco teórico y/o que lo han aplicado en España. An exodus of health care workers and other constraints have made the transfer of critically ill patients very difficult. In this disquieting "new-normal" of our work life, we routinely must (...) call bigger cities throughout our state to find beds for complex patients.So, it was not surprising when a young patient, an IV drug user in sepsis from a heart infection, was admitted to me in the middle of the night. In less disheartening times, before the pandemic, this patient would have been transferred promptly to the big-city hospital. Now, though, the possibility of finding an open bed is next to impossible. Resigned, I placed admission orders, continued antibiotics and fluids, and crossed my fingers. Then the unexpected happened: a bed opened up, and we could send her at once!The patient had a harsh heart murmur. It was likely that a "vegetation" was clinging to the valve, between the right upper and lower chambers of her heart. A vegetation is a clump of debris, such as platelets, clotting proteins, and bacteria that is a menace to the body. Her chest imaging looked like her infection had already spread to her lungs.A definitive diagnosis for endocarditis requires a special ultrasound with a probe that goes down through the esophagus, a procedure performed by cardiologists. It's a serious infection, one that requires weeks of IV antibiotics and is best monitored by infectious disease specialists. Sometimes, cardiothoracic surgeons are called upon to strip away the infection at the site, depending on how badly the valve has been slayed or the size of the vegetation. I am tired and want to rest!""But there might not be a bed in the morning," I countered. "And your infection can be life-threatening." In her wonderful book, Approaches to the Theory of Freedom in Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz, Virginia Aspe produces a groundbreaking presentation of Sor Juana’s theory of freedom with productive scholarship on the Coimbran Jesuit tradition and Renaissance Humanism in Latin America. In this paper, I center on Aspe’s interpretation of two of Sor Juana’s major works, First Dream, in which a disembodied dreaming soul rises into the nighttime sky in an attempt to take in and understand the universe, (...) and Critique of a Sermon, in which Sor Juana lays out counter-arguments to the Jesuit preacher Antonio Vieira’s designation of the greatest demonstration of Christ’s love and its implications for human freedom and God’s grace. My goal is to supplement and sometimes critique the interpretations endorsed by Aspe so as to ultimately enrich Aspe’s key insights into Sor Juana’s philosophical views. Ultimately, I first argue that Aspe’s Aristotelian interpretation of First Dream is necessary but not sufficient for understanding Sor Juana’s poem, which requires the inclusion 15th and 16th century Neoplatonism. Secondly, I argue that in her interpretation of Critique of a Sermon Aspe misattributes a view to Sor Juana that belongs to Antonio Vieira, which requires a small tweak to her theory of Sor Juana’s views on freedom and human moral psychology. The present study is quantitative applied educational research that first analyzes a theoretical framework that affirms that the academic performance of students constitutes a central element in university education since it represents a measure of the learning achieved by individuals and, at the same time, an indicator of the quality of higher education institutions and systems. Likewise, it is specified that the problem of the study is: How does the academic performance of university students’ impact in the Peruvian context? Considering (...) that there are factual realities that need to be reviewed in a relevant way, such as difficulties in grades and GPA, difficulties in-class participation, difficulties in delivering assignments and projects on time, inadequate interaction with professors and classmates, and absenteeism. A case study was used, selecting 106 students from a private university in Lima through a non-probabilistic and intentional sampling. The technique applied was the survey and the instrument was a questionnaire. A total of 20 questions were asked considering a work structure called "Construction and Validation of the RAU scale of University Academic Performance" composed of three dimensions (contribution to academic activities, dedication to study, and lack of organization of teaching resources). As a main result, the importance of formative management of students' motivation became evident. It is concluded that it was possible to obtain two dimensions resulting from the model, which are the formative metacognitive dimension and the formative socio-humanistic dimension. (shrink)

In this article a study is carried out to identify the aspects of student satisfaction that allow improving university academic performance through applied educational research with a qualitative approach. Likewise, it is specified that the study problem is: how to enhance academic performance based on the satisfaction of the university student seen as a customer? The theoretical framework states that the way to be able to plan, know, and evaluate the satisfaction of students concerning the service they usually receive in (...) academic terms is considered a relevant factor concerning the quality of education at the national level, such efforts demanding an objective of excellence in education. The study subjects were 06 teachers of the Administration and Marketing career of a private university in Lima. As main results, 02 axes were evidenced: how satisfaction influences university academic performance and the elements to know which motivational strategies improve university academic performance. A discussion of the results was carried out, contrasting what was obtained in the qualitative focus group instrument to affirm or not the delimited category and the emerging categories of the study subjects with the scientific literature. Likewise, in conclusion, we have the reflection to reinforce the importance of student satisfaction to improve student performance in their educational experience at an integral level. (shrink)

This paper offers a critique of Martha Nussbaum’s description of the capability approach, and offers an alternative. I will argue that Nussbaum’s characterization of the capability approach is flawed, in two ways. First, she unduly limits the capability to two strands of work, thereby ignoring important other capabilitarian scholarship. Second, she argues that there are five essential elements that all capability theories meet; yet upon closer analysis three of them are not really essential to the capability approach. I also offer (...) an alternative description of the capability approach, which is called the cartwheel view of the capability approach. This view is at the same time radically multidisciplinary yet also contains a foundationally robust core among its various usages, and is therefore much better able to make the case that the capability approach can be developed in a very wide range of more specific normative theories. Finally, the cartwheel view is used to argue against Nussbaum's claim that all capabilitarian political theory needs to be politically liberal. (shrink)

El objetivo de este trabajo es efectuar un recorrido por la historia, características y proceso de restauración de dos de las piezas más antiguas de la Colección de Arqueología de la Técnica e Industrial del Museo Nacional de Ciencias Naturales. CSIC. Son dos microscopios del siglo XVIII, construidos en Inglaterra. El microscopio simple-compuesto, construido por George Adams hacia 1750-1770 pudo pertenecer a D. Antonio de Ulloa o a Don Pedro Franco Dávila. Sólo se exponen dos piezas semejantes en el Museo (...) de la Ciencia de Ginebra y en el de Londres. El microscopio compuesto, construido por Dollond hacia 1780, fue propiedad de Eugenio Izquierdo de Rivera y Lazaún sucesor de D. Pedro Franco Dávila en la dirección del Real Gabinete de Historia Natural, actual Museo Nacional de Ciencias Naturales. A planta sensível Mimosa Púdica é um tipo particular de planta que possui folhas capazes de responder ao contato em questão de segundos, fazendo com que se retraiam e pareçam murchas. É uma das poucas plantas que iniciam movimentos visualmente perceptíveis ao ser humano. No que diz respeito às pesquisas incipientes sobre sensibilidade e cognição em plantas, a Mimosa parece ser um organismo modelo interessante para analisar essas possibilidades graças às suas respostas rápidas que podem ser observadas diretamente. Desta forma, (...) a Mimosa Púdica poderá ser utilizada como modelo para o estudo do fenómeno da sensibilidade e da cognição, não só a nível eletrofisiológico, mas também a nível comportamental e funcional. Com base nas evidências científicas da biologia e da neurociência dos últimos 15 anos, argumentar-se-á que a planta sensível é um organismo modelo adequado para estudar, não apenas a nível fisiológico-mecânico, a capacidade das plantas em responder a estímulos, mas também também avaliar que tantas habilidades cognitivas, como aprendizagem e memória, são atribuíveis aos organismos vegetais a partir das respostas observáveis ​​no referido modelo. O acima exposto é postulado em relação à ideia de que todos os organismos vegetais iniciam movimentos, mas nem todos são observáveis ​​pelos humanos: a Mimosa seria então um modelo útil para análise, pois apresenta movimentos que podem ser observados pelos pesquisadores e permitiria a avaliação de diferentes capacidades relacionadas aos fenômenos de sensibilidade e cognição. The aim of this study was to obtain an increased understanding of the experiences of elderly people in geriatric care, with special reference to integrity. Data were collected through qualitative interviews with elderly people and, in order to obtain a description of caregivers’ integrity-promoting or non-promoting behaviours, participant observations and qualitative interviews with nursing students were undertaken. Earlier studies on the integrity of elderly people mainly concentrated on their personal and territorial space, so Kihlgren and Thorsén opened up the possibility (...) of considering the concept of integrity from a broader view by recognizing its relationship to the larger framework of the self-concept. Based on this, findings in the present study indicate that elderly people’s integrity relating to their corporal self were the least violated. On the other hand, their psycological, information and cultural selves were the most exposed. The study also identified a further dimension (i.e. one relating to social self), which should be included in the concept of integrity because respecting elderly people’s social self reduces their feelings of loneliness, isolation and seclusion. In summary, the results indicate that the concept of integrity is complex and has several dimensions. (shrink)

Continuing medico-technical progress has led toan increasing medicalisation of pregnancy andchildbirth. One of the most common technologiesin this context is ultrasound. Based on someidentified `pro-technology feminist theories',notably the postmodernist feminist discourse,the technology of ultrasound is analysedfocusing mainly on social and political ratherthan clinical issues. As empirical researchsuggests, ultrasound is welcomed by themajority of women. The analysis, however, showsthat attitudes and decisions of women areinfluenced by broader social aspects. Furthermore, it demonstrates how the visualtechnology of ultrasound, in addition to otherreproductive technology (...) in maternity care, islinked to the `personification' of the foetusand has therefore contributed to a new image ofthe foetus. The exploration of these issueschallenges some arguments of feministdiscourse. It draws attention to possibleadverse implications of the technology forwomen's reproductive freedom and indicates theimportance of the topic for politicaldiscussions. (shrink)

This study investigated attitudes toward the use of deception in negotiation, with particular attention to the distinction between deception regarding the informational elements of the interaction (e.g., lying about or misrepresenting needs or preferences) and deception about emotional elements (e.g., misrepresenting one's emotional state). We examined how individuals judge the relative ethical appropriateness of these alternative forms of deception, and how these judgments relate to negotiator performance and long-run reputation. Individuals viewed emotionally misleading tactics as more ethically appropriate to use (...) in negotiation than informational deception. Approval of deception predicted negotiator performance in a negotiation simulation and also general reputation as a negotiator, but the nature of these relationships depended on the kind of deception involved. During the past decade, screening tests using computed tomography have disseminated into practice and been marketed to patients despite neither conclusive evidence nor professional agreement about their efficacy and cost-effectiveness at the population level. This phenomenon raises questions about physicians' professional roles and responsibilities within the setting of medical innovation, as well as the appropriate scope of patient autonomy and access to unproven screening technology. This article explores how physicians ought to respond when new screening examinations that lack conclusive evidence (...) of overall population benefit emerge in the marketplace and are requested by individual patients. To this end, the article considers the nature of evidence and how it influences decision-making for screening at both the public policy and individual patient levels. We distinguish medical and ethical differences between screening recommended for a population and screening considered on an individual patient basis. Finally, we discuss specific cases to explore how evidence, patient risk factors and preferences, and physician judgment ought to balance when making individual patient screening decisions. (shrink)

In the industrial context, steel is a broadly-used raw material with applications in many different fields. Due to its high impact in the activity of many industries all over the world, forecasting its price is of utmost importance for a huge amount of companies. In this work, non-linear neural models are applied for the first time to different datasets in order to validate their suitability when predicting the price of this commodity. In particular, the NAR, NIO and NARX neural network (...) models are innovatively applied for the first time to forecast the price of hot rolled steel in Spain. Besides these variety of models, different datasets consisting of a set of heterogenous variables from the last seven years and related to the price of this commodity are benchmarked and analyzed. The results showed that NARX is the best performing model when the price of raw materials used to produce steel and the stock market prices of three major global steel producing companies are employed as input to this predictive model. Consequently, this result may boost the application of Machine Learning in companies, in order to schedule the supplying operations according to the price forecasting. (shrink)
